Soleil Nuit, Persée is both a sculptural work that plays with ambient light and a device which projects bursts of coloured light onto its surroundings, leading the viewer to discover the vibrations of an Impressionist painting, in a kinetic version. Consisting of two opposing aluminium discs covered with a mesh made up of 5,000 mirrors of varying hues, during the day it is as changeable as the rays that shine through the clouds, while in the dark, it acts like a radiant star: the sun, the night.
Sébastien Lefèvre is an artist and lighting designer. He trained in Paris and has worked internationally for decades combining performing arts with architecture and urban space. He has created lighting designs for numerous choreographers and directors worldwide. His light installations, presented in cities across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Australia, transform our perception of the landscape and allow us to experience the city through light.

Location
Built as a Veterinary School in 1877 by Francisco Jareño, IES Cervantes was converted into a secondary school in 1929 and is one of Madrid’s historic educational centres. This is owing to its architecture, with its extensive exposed brick façades representative of Madrid’s Neo-Mudéjar style, as well as its former students, including Enrique Tierno Galván, José Luis Garci, Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri and Emilio Lledó, and teachers as important as Antonio Machado and María Zambrano.
